Peter Wood
Director of Mission Services
Mr. Wood joined International Humanitarian Care in January 2017. Graduated with honors (cum laude) from California State University, Fresno with a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology in 1982 and from the University of California at Los Angeles with a Masters of Public Health degree in Environmental Health Sciences in 1985.
Mr. Wood began his career with the State of California in 1984, working first as a graduate student assistant and later at an entry-level position for the California Department of Health Services’ Toxic Substances Control Division. In 1990, transferred to the Sacramento County Hazardous Materials Division as a first-line supervisor, but returned to the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) in 1993, and remained there until his retirement in 2016. In 2007, became the first scientist to join DTSC’s Office of Criminal Investigations. With over 30 years of experience as an environmental regulator. Most of that time was spent in either a supervisorial or leadership capacity in environmental enforcement. Responsibilities involved successively higher levels of planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the work of professional staff engaged in civil and criminal investigations and prosecution; regulatory program development and implementation; work plan preparation and management; advising the Director and members of executive staff on a range of program issues; responding to inquiries from the Governor’s Office, the legislature, environmental advocates, industry trade associations, other regulatory agencies, regulated businesses, and members of the general public.
